Get Up Close & Personal With Aquatic Creatures At Underwater World Langkawi

Underwater World Langkawi is another wow! must see. At this marine showcase you can see exotic fresh and seawater fishes and other wonderful marine creatures, as well as beautiful koi pond and dazzling displays of colourful corals. It's not as prestigious as the one in Singapore but it's considered by many to be good in a small island like this. There are thousands of various species of fish ranging from freshwater, to salt water and some mammals too.

Underwater World Langkawi

Underwater World Langkawi is located at the popular beach of Pantai Cenang. It has more than 100 tanks of different sizes, housing more than 5,000 aquatic species.

Gorgeous sharks and stingrays, giant groupers, green turtlespot, bellied sea horses, porcupine fish - those are the aquatic creatures that you can get up close with while walking through the 15-metre tempered glass underwater tunnel.

You'll find that it is very interesting to see the underwater garden of weed and sea plants, together with beautifully colored tropical fishes swimming elegantly.

There are also spectacular shells and fossils collection from all over the world in display.

The Leafy Sea Dragons

Ooh.. don't forget to find the tank displaying sea dragons from Australia. They're quite..uhh.. leafy.

The sea dragons are sensitive and shy creatures belonging to the sea horse family.

Their leaf-like bodies provide a defence-mechanism to camouflage them from their enemies. The ideal temperature for the sea dragons is 16°C, and any changes to this can be fatal.

You can learn more about sea dragons by watching a 10-minute documentary of the animal in its natural habitat on a TV set nearby.

Arapaima & Penguins

Look out also for the world’s biggest freshwater fish, the Arapaima.

If its raining in Langkawi, then Underwater World Langkawi is a great way to spend an hour or so.

You can take photos of the fishes but the flash light has to be switched off.

The exit of the aquarium is another shopping paradise. There is a duty free shopping arcade and a shop-selling dried seafood such as shark fins, birds nest, scallops and oysters.

In a small garden outside you will find a pool of koi carp and some short clawed otters.

Underwater World Langkawi is indeed a rich treasure trove of marine life and a fascinating window of the aquatic world.
