The Lanai Langkawi Hotel
by Su
First impressions were that this hotel looked very nice and had friendly and welcoming staff, however, we didnt think that this compensated for the grubbiness and grottiness in the bathroom and the room!
Myself, my mum, my aunty and my grandma stayed at the hotel for three days, two nights and had two rooms, each with twin beds. When we first walked in, the most noticeable thing about the room was the smell! It was kind of like mouldy and damp, not very pleasant. It came from the bathroom, which was dirty and had mould stains on the mirror and walls. In the shower, the grouting in between the tles had turned black and there were unsightly cracks and chips in the flooring.
However, there were some good points about the hotel. The swimming pool was lovely and clean, providing a really nice atmosphere and the location was great, right on this little corner of the beach. The beachfront cafe was lovely and so was the continental breakfast in the morning. Another nice touch was that in the hotel room (on the ground lor), there were doors opening out onto a little private patio at the back of your room.
Unfortunately, at night, when I closed the curtains in front of the doors, I saw a sinister bloodstain on the curtain!! I was a bit freaked out and thought maybe it was just a one off thing, like a nosebleed accident that couldnt be helped. But when I got into my bed, I found more blood, this time on the wall next to my bed and in the morning, i found drops of it on the patio!! I pointed it out to my mum and she was grossed out, it wasn't very nice!!
I would give the Lanai 2/5 stars because it was nice at first, but disappoining in the condition of the hotel rooms. To get more customers, they should give it a couple of coats of paint to spruce it up, and try to tidy up the rooms more, maybe even closing it or renovating the rooms in stages would help. With other 5 star accomodations nearby, the Lanai can't compete with them because they are lacking in cleanliness! It would be nice to go back, but only if the conditions of the rooms have changed.
