Pelangi Beach Resort & Spa

(KL at the moment.)

On arrival we were met at reception with slight indignation, but can mistake locals actions when tired after a long journey. We travelled from Manchester by Etihad via Abu Dhabi and Kuala Lumpur.

Arriving at 6.30 pm at the hotel, Michael the baggage boy was cheerful in his work carrying our cases and explaining the rooms workings.

This was not a clearly great thing, it was very hot (no A/C switched on)but this did cool down eventually.

We found that the door to the mini bar fridge did not close and all the drinks were covered in condensation, Michael said he would get someone to fix it.

A double bedded room was booked and we had 2 singles put closely together, but still 2 singles.

On having a shower a worker knocked on the door to repair the fridge and being wet and unclothed advised him that it was not the time.

Once dressed we left the room after ensuring that the doors were locked at 7.30, time for some food and a drink. My wife put all valuables in the safe and as this was a semi working holiday back in KL I locked my briefcase with a laptop in it.

My wife had a new Nokia phone that needed charging so it was decided as the room would be locked it could be left charging on the floor adjacent to the iron in the corner.

On getting to the reception we requested that the bed arrangement was wrong and after some explaining they agreed to change it for a double.
We arrived back in our room at 12.15 am and my wife noticed her phone missing but the charger still in the wall socket.

A lengthy search revealed nothing so it was over to the dputy manager on nightshift to report this. He was not so bothered and said to contact them in the morning. Meantime a call on our other phone to the UK was made to put a stop the phone, this was done. We asked has the phone been used and they said it had a 2.15 pm UK time (9.15 Malaysian time)when we were out of the room.

Next morning it was reported again and again a look of it could not happen here was given. The security chief was brought in and we spent 2 hours giving a statement, it was then said we had to go to the police station back at the airport in the hotel transport, more precious time wasted 2 more hours again!!!

On arriving we had to go through all the full statement and type out on the computer the full statement again. They did not seem to believe that we had not just lost it. Were we insured, did we lock the door, why was the phone not locked away, questions and more questions.

I said we had a company in KL and that I stay in many local hotels and if staff had been in the hotel it could only be them especially after it had been used whilst we were out of the room.
3 people had been in the room during our night out and it could be deduced that these were suspect.

Eventually they said we had to meet up in a few hours time so as they could visit the crime scene.

On returning to ther hotel no apologises were given and the duty manager seemed oblivious to the fact that since arriving all we had done was run around. I was summoned to reception after settling down beside the pool to meet with the police officers and a photographer, back to the room for a crime scene photo shoot and reconstuction. 1 more hour later no mention of the suspects and it seemed that it would be washed under the table.

We were repeatably asked were we insured, yes but a £40 excess is applied. We then over the next few days asked on news and no apologises or compensation offered.

We left for KL and gave our phone and address as where we were staying and despite daily e-mails 2 per day NO RESPONSE or messages have been received.

THIS HOTEL WAS EXPENSIVE AND OUR STAY RUINED. THEY HAVE NOT THE COURTESY TO OFFER ANY APOLOGISES AND WE STILL HAVE NO CLOSURE ON THE THEFT. ITS A PHONE TODAY WHO ELSE WILL SUFFER NEXT TIME AND FOR WHAT.

A WORD OF WARNING DO NOT VISIT THIS HOTEL YOU WILL SUFFER EVEN THOUGH YOU THOUGHT IT WAS SAFE.
