Nusantara Gamat Factory
On the way to Kuah, we noticed a large bottle of Gamat, the traditional medicine from the sea on the right side of the highway. We made a u-turn and stopped at the large Gamat factory and shop known as Nusantara Maju Enterprise.
The shop is known as Nusantara -- there were a lot of different kind of gamat products on sale!
From the bottled gamat oil, dried ibu gamat, gamat soap, gamat pills, gamat powder and so much more stuff made of gamat! The gamat business must be good because I noticed the owner provided a huge parking spaces in front of the shop for buses and cars.
If you want to learn more about gamat, this is a great place to be! Besides the gamat products, there were also the herbs and roots used for making gamat ointment on display. Wow! I never knew that so many roots and herbs are used in gamat oil production.
We browsed through the shop, and bought a few packs of gamat oils, dried ibu gamat and gamat soap as souvenirs. They mostly sell the gamat products in packs which are cheaper than buying the product individually.
On the left side of the Nusantara Maju' shop was the place to cook the gamat oil. The label clearly stated "Tempat Memasak Minyak Gamat". But be caution! It was a really hot place.
I saw two large pots containing boiling gamat oil. And, they boiled the gamat oil using the traditional methods -- firewoods!
When we were leaving the place, there were two tourist buses just arrived at the gamat factory. Yup, gamat is a big business in Langkawi!
