Exceptional Arts You Can Bring Home
Langkawi Craft Cultural Complex
Langkawi Craft Cultural Complex is nestled upon a hilltop in Teluk Yu, along the northern coast of Langkawi island.
This place is a huge complex housing all the local Malaysian crafts under one roof. You can find everything from metal artifacts, fabrics, ceramics, ethnic craftwork, elicate hand-drawn batik products, intricately carved silverware right up to items from the forest.
There is also a demonstration area where handiwork such as weaving, batik painting, wood carving and plaiting is done.
Langkawi Craft Cultural Complex was created with the aim to maintain and promote Malaysia's rich cultural heritage, which is why you can also find a heritage museum inside the complex. This heritage museum displays various handicrafts from different parts of Malaysia.
You can have a closer look at the ever popular favorite - the hand-drawn and printed batik with exclusive designs, and songket or silk material interwoven with gold and silver threads - the essence of Malay design in the past and used for all official and royal functions.
You'll also be amazed by the intricately woven baskets, beadwork and bamboo carvings with designs that are hundreds of years old - created by the ethnic tribes of Sabah and Sarawak.
Pua weaving of the Iban tribe and Mogah textiles of the Bajaus.
You can also find ceramics in the form of pots from various states in Malaysia. Each has their own individual designs.
Langkawi Craft Cultural Complex is definitely a wow! must-see.
