Seven Wells Is Closed
Langkawi waterfalls are indeed a must-see recreational spot. However, the popular Telaga Tujuh waterfall in Pantai Kok, is temporarily closed to visitors following the death of two foreign tourists during the weekend.
The men from Saudi Arabia and Sudan were believed to have slipped and hit the rocks while visiting the Seven Wells waterfall. The two incidents took place within 24 hours.
The first victim, Badrun Moham-mad Anwar, 17, died on the spot after he tripped and fell 50m down while trekking up the multi-level waterfall site with a group of friends on Saturday. The second victim, Jamel Salleh Shifa, 33, tripped and fell 10m down at 10.30am yesterday. Badrun, from Saudi Arabia, was studying at the Malacca branch of the Multimedia University while Jamel was a tourist from Khartoum, Sudan.
It is noted that only the upper section of the recreational spot was temporarily closed to facilitate investigation.
Telaga Tujuh, which is part of the Gunung Mat Chinchang Forest Reserve (mainly comprising dipterocarp forests), is probably among the oldest natural and free attractions in Langkawi. Telaga Tujuh is closely associated with many of Langkawi's legends. It is said that fairies used to come down to frolic and bathe in these pools, thus giving it healing powers.
A safety reminder:

Langkawi Geological Treasures
If you're interested in Geology, you may find dropstones interesting.
What are dropstones? Dropstone are pebbles or blocks of rock brought by glaciers millions of years ago and dropped on the seafloor. And yes... you can find one in Langkawi.
Two British geologists, who used a radio-metric system to determine its age, discovered the stone 30 years ago. The
granite dropstone is said to be dating back a billion years and exists in a mudstone at Pulau Tepor, southwest of Langkawi.
This particular dropstone (measuring 25cm by 16cm) once drifted along in a glacier before it was dropped in Langkawi, which was submerged in water a long, long time ago. The presence of the dropstone implies that the Langkawi islands were once joined with other continents and sub-continents such as Australia, India, Africa and Antartica, in a super-continent called Gondwana during the late carboniferous to early Permian time (about 280-300 million years ago).

Flights From Bangkok To Langkawi
The budget carrier Air Asia made its maiden flight from Bangkok to Langkawi last Saturday, with 90 passengers on board. The Boeing 737-300 jetliner landed at the Langkawi International Airport at 5.05pm.
The 90 passengers and crew were given a rousing welcome by travel and tour agents. The welcoming ceremony was organised by the Malaysian Travel and Tour Association (Matta), Langkawi Tourist Association (LTA) and the Hotel Association of Malaysia (Kedah branch).
AirAsia will operate three flights a week -- on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday -- between the two destinations.
The flight will depart from Bangkok at 3.30pm and arrive in Langkawi at 5.05pm. It will depart from Langkawi at 5.30pm and arrive in Bangkok at 7.05pm on the same day.
The airline's Airbus A320 has the capacity to carry 200 passengers to Langkawi. It is expected that about 800 tourists to cross the border from Thailand into Kedah at Bukit Kayu Hitam daily. Thais are also expected to visit Langkawi using the sea route from Satun in southern Thailand.
Of the 2.8 million tourists estimated to visit Kedah this year, 70% are expected to head for Langkawi.

Visit Langkawi In May
After trying like crazy for 2 hours, finally I got the free flight tickets as offered by Air Asia. Well.... it's not really free because I still need to pay the airport taxes. However, it's really worth the trying as the fare is 100% waived. Return flights to Langkawi for 2 guests is only RM179.98!
So.... we are going to visit Langkawi in May 2007. The exact date? Hmm... for the time being... let's keep that as a secret.
This visit will be short and sweet. Short because it's only for 3 days. Sweet because I'll be there with my hubby. So... I need to prepare my Langkawi itinerary so that I can cover Langkawi as much as I can. It will be fun!

Air Asia Free 1 Million Seats
On 9th January 2007, I received a Red Alert from Air Asia that they are giving away 1,000,000 FREE SEATS to over 70 routes across Asia. The destinations include Langkawi, Sibu, Bali, Jakarta, Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Macau, Hanoi and many more. The booking period is from 9th January to 19th January 2007 for traveling period from 1st April to 27th October 2007.
The ticket fare is free but you still need to pay certain tax. For going to Langkawi, the tax payable is RM40 per person. Hmmm.. that looks interesting... so I decided to check out their website and try to get free tickets to Langkawi.
First attempt -- failed. An error message, saying that the system is busy and asking me to try again.
Then, I was quite busy throughout the day and completely forgotten about the free 1 million seats.
Today, 11th January 2007. I browsed through my Yahoo mail and once again, noticed that email from Air Asia. So... I tried again today at 12.05pm.
First attempt -- failed with same error message. "Sorry... system is busy....please try again..."
Second attempt -- managed to see the page showing departure times that are available for selected date. Alas! The error message popped up again when I clicked the "continue" button.
Third attempt -- failed again. This time the error message said, "Oops.. did you expect to log in? Apparently, you've already logged out.....".
Fourth attempt -- managed to go up until the payment page. Damn! The website kicked me out again. This time after I've keyed in my credit card details. I backed up and refreshed the browser. But... after that, I repeatedly got kicked out from the booking page for 5 more times. Another new error message appeared saying that there is an error with my booking. What? ....
Hmm.. I almost given up but decided to give it a try for one last time. Help me God... please!
I started from the beginning again. Step by step. Page by page.... until I reached the payment page again. Then... I clicked the "continue" button....and wait for almost 40 seconds. Congratulations! My booking is confirmed and I am happy to see my flight itinenary to Langkawi! The time was 2.15pm... and I was trying like crazy for 2 hours just for booking a flight ticket?
What a day!
