At Laman Padi Langkawi, you can experience a sampling of anything that goes into the cultivation, nurturing and harvesting of padi. There's no other place that you can do this!

There is a museum in the Laman Padi Langkawi complex. It showcases all the traditional technology and paraphernalia used in padi planting and harvesting, especially those practiced in Kedah and Langkawi. You can also see tools like fish traps made of bamboo and replicas of traditional rice-based foods.

I bet most of you never see a rice field before. Yes, there are real padi fields at the Laman Padi Langkawi!

Several plots of real padi fields complete with rest huts, scarecrows, and even live buffalos and free-range chicken can be found next to the Laman Padi Langkawi complex.

The animals are linked to the lot of the padi farmers of old. The smell of wet mud that permeates the air adds to the quaint and rustic atmosphere.

This is a real sampling of living amidst the padi lands of the rural heartland of northern peninsula Malaysia. The waters of the padi field here is the only place that still supports freshwater fish like the puyu and sepat, which have vanished from commercial padi fields due to the use pesticides.

The Laman Padi Langkawi has been sized down to accommodate other activities but the place is still as interesting and unique as before. Today, sharing the area is a small artist colony, two restaurants and a Malay spa.
