Langkawi Lagenda Park
If you didn't have enough time to explore all the nooks and crannies of Langkawi, you should go to the Taman Legenda (Legends Park). This 20 hectares (50 acres) park would gives you a good insight into all the colourful legends associated with Langkawi.
The most dramatic legend was the fight between Mat Raya and Mat Chinchang. It is said that the damage caused by their duel gave birth to the names of many of the places in Langkawi. This includes Gunung Raya, Gunung Machinchang, Kuah (said to have been formed when their struggle overturned a pot of gravy, which in Bahasa Melayu is "kuah"), Ayer Hangat, Tanjung Cincin, and Belanga Pecah.
Located about 400 metres from the Kuah Jetty Complex, the Legends Park visually depicts Langkawi's mythical and legendary heritage, which is at the core of the island's many attractions.
At the entrance of the Legends Park, we noticed the replica of Gondwanaland -- that land mass of which the Langkawi islands were part of about 500 million years ago.
We went inside the park (entrance was free) but only to take photos of the beautiful scenery. A shaded tree-lined pedestrian boulevard leads from the entrance to the end of the park. Along the way, you can see the many legends that have been creatively immortalised in stone.
I didn't have the energy to walk or cycle through the 20 hectares (50 acres) park. It was so huge! And, while Zaly laughed at me, I just smiled. I had already laughed at him when he refused to walk along the skybridge!! So...it was equal, right?
If you happen to be in Langkawi, do visit the Legends Park with 17 story-telling monuments, 4 artifical lakes and a man-made beach.
