Craft Cultural Complex Langkawi
It was 4.45pm, when we reached the Langkawi Craft Complex. This place was huge and full with expensive souveniers! Well, there were some affordable souveniers but my eyes only caught glimpse of the expensive ones. Ha...ha...ha!
The Langkawi Craft Complex is located at Teluk Yu in Mukim Bohor, Langkawi. It is about 21 kilometres from Kuah town via the Ulu Melaka road.
The craft complex (white building with blue roof) is a one-stop arts and crafts centre. You can find a lot craftwork items -- from forest-based products, fabrics, ceramics to metal artifacts and beautiful art objects representing the various Malaysian ethnic groups.
At the demonstration centre, you see demonstration of the intricate techniques of producing local works of art and crafts such as weaving, batik painting and wood carving.
Zaly fell in love with some hand-printed batik clothings. They were lovely and cost a bomb!
The owner of the shop said that he designed the batik himself. And, each batik clothing is unique -- only one such design created!
The above batik clothings were freshly made -- "Hot from the oven.", the owner jokingly said. And, it cost RM200 each!
So... did we buy it? Nope... I didn't really like it.
But, we bought each of us a pair of batik clothing in the form of traditional kurung kedah and baju melayu. Perfect for the upcoming Hari Raya!
At the Langkawi Craft Complex, there was also a gallery displaying static representations of wedding ceremonies and customs of Malaysians.
The craft complex opens from 10.00 am to 6 pm, and the entrance is free.
