Langkawi Declared A Geopark By Unesco

Langkawi, a cluster of 99 islands covering an area of 10,000 hectares, has been declared a geopark by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco) on June 1st. With the recognition, Langkawi joined the Global Geoparks network of 52 geoparks worldwide.

Langkawi International Regatta Postponed To November

The Premier Langkawi International Regatta scheduled from Feb 9 to 11 is postponed to Nov 28 to Dec 2 as sailing facilities at Kuah is still under construction. The second phase of the construction of sailing facilities where the National Sailing Training Centre is located will be completed in July 2007. The Malaysian Sailing Championship will be held simultaneously with the regatta.

New schedules for KTM trains

KTM Bhd has changed the schedules for its Ekspres Langkawi and International Express passenger trains effective 15th Jan 2007. The Ekspres Langkawi train from Kuala Lumpur to Padang Besar/Haadyai now leaves Butterworth at 6.20am. It leaves Butterworth at 10.30pm on its return journey to Kuala Lumpur. The International Express to Bangkok now leaves Butterwoth at 1.15pm.
